Places To Visit

The wilderness character of the wet Miombo with the associated animal life provides a unique opportunity for nature walks and ordinary walking Safaris in the Lusenga Plains National Park. The National Park and the four stunning waterfalls are the main attractions in Kawambwa area. The Lumangwe 11three waterfalls on the Kalungwishi River can additionally be a supplement to the mighty Victoria Falls ( Mosi- o –Tunya) , which is already popular and the most important nature based tourist attraction in Zambia. Visitors are encouraged to extend their waterfalls adventure tourism by visiting other waterfalls such as LUMWANGE FALLS (second Largest after Victoria Falls in Zambia ), KABWELUME FALLS and KUNDABWIKA FALLS which are all along the KALUNGWISHI RIVER. All the four waterfalls can be seen in a day’s time. They are within the River stretch of approximately 60 Kilometres. Lumangwe 1The NTUMBACHUSHI FALLS is another spectacular water falls as you are entering Kawambwa District. ROCK PAINTINGS can also being viewed near Kundabwika Falls. Plans are underway to construct ropes and other facilities required to facilitate viewing of the falls by the aged and disabled who are currently unable to view the falls at a close range due to steepness and slippery nature of the landscape.

Lumangwe 13In addition to the physical attributes there are also traditional ceremonies in Kawambwa district recognized by the Government of Zambia. Around July we have the UMUTOMBOKO CEREMONY of the LUNDA people of Senior Chief MWATA KAZEMBE at MWANSABOMBWE. Around October there is CHISHINGA MALAILA of the Chishinga people of Senior Chief MUSHOTA.

The current status of Lusenga Plains National Park as a tourist destination is low owing to the low animal numbers and species diversity. No tourist accommodation facilities exist in or on the periphery of the Park, although visitors can camp outside or on the periphery.
